Thanks for a great '08!

I want to thank everyone who was a part of a great 2008 for me, a year filled with thrills, new experiences, excitement, some sadness (Carlin), and another Cubs playoff disappointment.

2009 began for me in Atlanta at the Punchline where I was reveling after doing three great New Year's Eve shows. I hadn't done a New Year's Eve show since I moved to New York a dozen years ago and I forgot how fun they can be. People are out to have a good time, dressed up, and ready to laugh. Good times.

People have often asked me to post my performance of Particle Board from Comedy Central's Premium Blend, but I never could because, well, it's Comedy Central's. But now the good people at Viacom have launched jokes.com to host their video and I'm happy to say Particle Board is up and available.

If you've ever wondered what I look like in a suit, this clip will give you your answer. Also it's back when I was wearing my hair a little longer (and if you search the jokes.com archive you can see an even older song from me with even longer hair. I won't post the link because it's just. too. embarrassing).

Sometimes it's funnier when people don't get the joke...

During the election season I posted a satirical video sort of poking fun at the kind of songs that are overly patriotic to the point of being downright intolerant. The most interesting thing has been that people on the right and left side of the political spectrum have had a hard time grasping that it's satire.

Some commenters at the left-leaning women's site jezebel.com said they needed to save America from "sh*&heads" like me, but they might have been taking their cue from the editors of the site who were kind enough to list the song under the subject heading "f#%& this guy." While over at YouTube the song has inspired comments from some right-wing nutjobs as well.

Ahh, satire. When done properly it can really bring out the idiots. And at least the people at Salon got it, and they called me "funny, and bold." So in your face, Jezebel!

O.K. I'll spare you all of the motivational speaker crap for how great I'm convinced this new year is going to be, but I will say that if you comedy fans of the world are as good to me this year as you were last year 2009 will make me one happy comedy musician.
